Girls Empowered and Strong Program Coordinator (Maternity Leave)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Mandate
The mandate of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton is to foster the dignity and worth of
women and girls who are or are at risk of becoming criminalized.
Objectives
Girls Empowered and Strong (GES) is a Crime Prevention Program. The objectives of
GES are to deliver the GES Program through a series of workshops addressing issues teen
girls face. The program will be offered in the Edmonton and surrounding area.
Furthermore, GES-FASD focuses on girls with FASD diagnoses. Objective: to deliver the
GES Program specific for girls with FASD, taking into account their unique learning needs.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, the duties and responsibilities of the position are:
1. Program Development
– work with existing curriculum, modifying and implementing quality program
improvements
– keeping ‘up to date’ on the latest issues affecting teen girls and modifying GES
accordingly
2. Program Delivery
– offering workshops to girls ‘where the girls are’, through key partnerships in the
community. Workshop topics focus on a set curriculum and are adjustable to meet
the needs of the girls.
– engaging girls in important dialogue and providing resources and information as
needed
– offering GES-FASD specific for girls with FASD
– Keep accurate documentation of program delivery and statistics; assist with report
writing as needed.
3. Community Liaison
– Establishing and maintaining key partnerships in the community that offer services
with youth and who work with youth regularly
– Maintaining active membership with EFAN.

Work with colleagues to maintain agency youth resources
4. Support Work
– provide one on one support to girls who access our services as needed.
– Crisis intervention and de-escalation as required
– Advocate on behalf of girls, and provide opportunities for skill development
5. Supervision
– effective supervision of placement students, volunteers, and relevant temporary staff;
delegate work assignments accordingly.
– provide effective feedback and evaluation
6. Citizen Escort Program
– update and maintain Coordinator’s and Volunteer Manual
– advertise, publicize, recruit, screen and interview volunteers
– check volunteer references, complete Security Clearance Checks
– facilitate orientation workshops
– maintain volunteer records, statistics, and reports
– handling dissatisfaction; disciplinary action; exit interviews
– motivates volunteers and maintains volunteer morale
7. Other Duties
– maintain and submit current reporting of activities, time, expenses, etc to
Administration whenever required
– team member
a. assist with Agency Intake as needed
b. Attend staff meetings regularly
c. Assist with Christmas event planning and preparation and other Agency
priorities
– Perform other duties as required by the Executive Director
Statement of Qualifications
– Must have Valid Drivers’ License and reliable vehicle. Proof of insurance is required.
– Must be flexible as some evening work is required
– Must be able to satisfy a Prison Clearance and Child Welfare Record Check
– Personal Attributes
o Must be non-judgmental and have a great sense of humor
o Must be able to work as a team member
o Must have well developed communication skills
– Education and Experience
o Preferred education in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related human
services field
o Experience with program methodology, delivery and evaluation
o Group facilitation experience required

Knowledge of FASD and multi-modal learning.
o Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and factors affecting women and
girls who are criminalized.
o Knowledge of addictions, mental health issues, poverty, family violence,
marginalization, and other barriers
o Familiarity with resources in the community
o Passion for working with youth
o Knowledge of and respect for Aboriginal traditions and culture
o Some training and experience with short term and/or crisis counselling
This is a full-time position with benefits (after successful completion of probationary
period), based on a 35 hour work week. This is a contracted 6 month maternity leave
position with the possibility of extension.
Salary: Based on Agency Salary Grid

Program Co-Facilitator
Job Description
Mandate
The mandate of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton is to foster the dignity and worth of
women and girls who are or are at risk of becoming criminalized.
Position
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton is looking to hire one Program Co-Facilitator
(approximately 21-28 hours per week.) This is a 1 year contract with possibility of extension.
The Program Co-Facilitator will work primarily with our Girls Empowered and Strong
Program, but will also assist with Stoplifting co-facilitation (offered 3 times per week) and
occasionally with Financial Literacy workshops. Evening and weekend work is to be
expected.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Girls Empowered and Strong Program (70%)
– assist with planning, organizing and facilitating the GES Program (for girls ages 13-
17) in schools and through community partnerships
– program promotion and evaluation are key pieces of this work
– conducting intake assessments with participants
– assist with the FASD component of this program, including the implementation of
multi-modal learning techniques
– attend EFAN meetings when required
– accurate statistics and reporting as required
– develop and implement a youth volunteer program
– assist with the planning and organization of the Summer Girls program
– Other duties as required.
2. Stoplifting Program (10%)
– Assist with the facilitation of the Stoplifting program for women who have issues
with shoplifting behaviour.
– Assist with program evaluation
3. Financial Literacy Program (10%)
– assist with the facilitation of the Me and Money (financial literacy) program
– assist with program evaluation
4. Other Duties (10%)
– Assist with Agency social media efforts, including maintaining the EFry Facebook
page, Twitter account, and GES Facebook page.
– Assist with Agency priorities including but not limited to monthly staff meetings, our
Annual General meeting, team events and team training.
– Assist with Agency newsletter creation and blog posting.
– Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Desired Education, Skills, and Personal Attributes:
– post secondary education related to the human services field
– strong knowledge of FASD (involvement in EFAN an asset)
– Strong links to and respect for the Aboriginal Community
– knowledge of issues involving women and girls in conflict with the legal system,
addictions, self-harming behaviours, communication, conflict resolution, and stress
management
– volunteer experience and/or employment with non-profit agencies an asset
– must be culturally aware and sensitive to working with diverse cultures
– must be non-judgmental, empathetic, and sincere
– must possess strong communication and listening skills
– access to own transportation
– flexible schedule; able to work evenings and weekends
Salary: as per salary grid within the Human Resources Policies
