On May 12-13, 2014, the High Risk Youth Conference (HRYC) will take place in Edmonton!

This is the first conference of its kind and will be offered for all people who work with youth across Alberta. It will bring together service providers, researchers, and experts to focus on strategies and resources available in order to work more effectively with the growing population of youth with increasingly high risk and complex needs. The HRYC will focus on emerging practices that encompass the knowledge and methodology of harm reduction, attachment theory, trauma and brain development, relationship-based practice, and resiliency/strength-based approaches. The conference will offer workshops, keynote speakers, and networking opportunities with professionals and experts from multiple disciplines. Youth themselves will be represented as organizers, emcees, speakers, and entertainment.

Notable keynote speakers will include:

Jacqui Linder, Michael Ungar, Joanne Minaker, the Odd Squad.

On the evening on May 12, the Conference Steering Committee will be hosting “Moving Forward: a Celebration of Youth”. Youth will share their creativity through music, visual art, poetry, video and performing art.
