A 22-year-old man, previously from Prince Edward County, has been sentenced in Kingston to just under two years in jail for sex crimes involving two teenaged boys, 15 and 17 years old.
Dustin Wannamaker pleaded guilty in Kingston’s Ontario Court of Justice to sexually assaulting the 17-year-old in late April and a related violation of probation imposed two years ago in Belleville for a similar offence — and which required him to keep the peace.
He also pleaded guilty to transmitting sexually explicit material to the 15-year-old about a week later; invitation to sexual touching involving the younger teen; possession of child pornography; and two concomitant violations of the Belleville probation order, which in addition to obliging him to keep the peace, forbid him from possessing any devise capable of accessing the Internet.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to two frauds committed in May against the Royal Bank of Canada and Scotia Bank, plus attendant violations of both his 2013 probation order out of Belleville and an earlier May 2012 probation imposed in Napanee, both of which required that he keep the peace.
Justice Allan Letourneau issued two freestanding restitution orders against Wannamaker on behalf of the banks for a total of $1,297.73.
For the combined charges, he gave Wannamaker enhanced credit on 55 days of pretrial custody and sentenced him to an additional 724 days in jail, plus probation for 18 months.
The 22-year-old is also subject to a 10-year weapons ban and a court order forbidding him for life from frequenting places where children are congregated or could be reasonably expected to congregate, such as playgrounds and daycare centres. He’s also barred from seeking or accepting employment or volunteer work that would place him in a position of authority or trust over anyone under 16 and he’s not permitted to be in the company of anyone under 16 unless supervised by a responsible adult who is aware of his criminal history.
