The moment we all have been waiting for ……. Referrals are now being accepted for Bissell Centre’s Permanent Supportive Housing program for individuals diagnosed with a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
This program is the second one of its kind in Canada; it is very exciting to offer specific housing support to a population that has a tendency to slip through the cracks.

Please fill out this application form with as much detail as you can especially around the history of housing and submit all supporting documentation you have i.e. FASD diagnosis, Mental Health Evaluations, Functional Assessments
If you are connected to a Housing First program please submit your referrals to Coordinated Access; all other programs and agencies please submit your referrals directly Bissell Centre’s Program Manager Ashley Baxter at abaxter@bissellcentre.org

There will be 24 hours supports available to the residents.
This is truly good news for those of us who work with youth with FASD and ask ourselves “What will we do when they turn 18?”
I am wondering if there is any of this kind of support any where else ! And could we see this in each province and city? I have been a foster Parent to a Fasd person for 18 years he now is a young adult will little support!
This program is one of it’s kind in Canada. It is our hope that other provinces will implement this kind of program.

Hi Janice: Leaseholders have to be at least 18 years of age. Bissell Centre is accepting applications from anyone who is eligible. Please have your worker/mentor contact the program manager for this project at abaxter@bissellcentre.org

i have several clients with FASD that could use these type support
what if you have a place and are kind of looking for a bigger place, I have FASD, it is mild but I still have certain problems, and do you allow animals? I have 3 cats and some african dwarf frogs as well…

Way to go Edmonton — Whitehorse has a unit for adults with FASD called Options for Independence — that has been a great success — we wish you the same success !
