City of Edmonton Proclamation
WHEREAS, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is an umbrella term used to describe the range of effects that can occur in an individual whose mother consumed alcohol during pregnancy;
AND WHEREAS, FASD is the leading cause of preventable birth defects and developmental disabilities in North America;
AND WHEREAS, children are essential to our community and we have a shared responsibility to care for, nurture and protect them;
AND WHEREAS, the Edmonton and area Fetal Alcohol Network and other organizations work together to raise awareness of the danger of prenatal exposure to alcohol and the challenges faced by those with FASD;
Therefore I, Mayor Don Iveson, do hereby proclaim September 9th, 2018 ‘Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Day’ in Edmonton, Alberta’s Capital City.
