Webinar description

In the second webinar in this series, Dr. Chris Andersen, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Native Studies at the University of Alberta, presents contemporary narratives on the history and origins of the Métis Nation and Métis peoples in Canada and explores common misconceptions about this Indigenous population. Dr. Anderson’s research investigates the complicated issues around Métis identity, including the increase of Métis self-identification in the Canadian census, and discusses implications for law, policy, and relationships with non-Indigenous Canadians.

Series description

Pathways to Indigenous health is a series of webinars hosted by Dr. Daniel Sims, NCCIH Academic Co-Lead. Between September 2023 and April 2024, Dr. Sims and his guests will explore a variety of topics related to the health and well-being of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. The series intends to strengthen the links between knowledge, policy, and practice, by supporting the educational journeys of healthcare workers, public health audiences, and beyond.
