Here are some successful Strategies for working with clients affected with FASD:
- Use simple direct language
- Remind your client about meetings and court dates
- Give your client time to process information
- Remember to take breaks during meetings
- Repeat information from one consultation to the next
- Ask “what” they understand, not “if” they understand
- Access long term support for conditional sentences
- Learn more about fasd, as it is an important (aggravating) factor in a court sentence
