Culturally-Responsive FASD Resources & Indigenous Approaches to Prevention, De-Stigmatization & FASD Care Models: A Community Engagement Webinar

Topic:

Developing Culturally-Responsive FASD Resources & Indigenous Approaches to Prevention, De-Stigmatization & FASD Care Models: A Community Engagement Webinar

Description:

In 2005, the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC) launched the first Indigenous-specific Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) toolkit in Canada, which was then revised in 2008. However, the FASD field has continued to evolve and a more nuanced cultural analysis and perspective is needed to revise and enhance current Indigenous-specific FASD resources.

The purpose of the webinar is to engage Indigenous communities, individuals living with FASD, caregivers, services providers, and Indigenous helpers on needs and priorities as it relates to FASD resources and services in their communities. The information gathered will inform the OFIFC’s efforts to revamp its toolkit, in partnership with CanFASD and Health Nexus, and develop culturally-responsive FASD resources to help improve Indigenous-led prevention efforts and care models, as well as de-stigmatize FASD and build resilient and healthy communities.
