This study will investigate the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure and postnatal adversity on children’s brain structure, physical and mental health, and neurocognitive and behavioural profiles.
The purpose of the study is to help us better understand the role of cumulative risk factors on children’s development in each of these areas, with the long term goal of enabling us to better serve those at highest risk for negative outcomes.
The study will include children aged 7-16 both with and without prenatal alcohol exposure (FASD diagnosis not required for participation). Information will be gathered in both Calgary and Edmonton using interviews, questionnaires, neuropsychological assessment measures, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
